The Les Paul "Log" was introduced in 1941, and was not manufactured commercially. The name refers to the shape of the guitar, and was made from pine wood, electronic pick ups, and two solid body pieces of wood. This guitar was just a thin piece of wood, but had 3 pick ups instead of 2.
The Log was best suited for rock music that used an electric guitar. Although this was not manufactured commercially, this was considered an important model. Paul introduced his idea to Gibson, but was turned down. Later, Gibson presented him a model similar to the "Log". This model soon became the most iconic signature model ever built.
