This creature might make you say “Aw,” but its diet is more of an “Ew!” Plateau pikas (PEE-kuhs) are native to the Tibetan Plateau in Central Asia. Scientists investigated for years to find out how the rodents survive the area’s harsh winters, since plateau pikas don’t hibernate or store food. And they recently figured out the answer: The animals eat yak poop! The dung is easy to find and contains nutrients. Also, during the winter, plateau pikas move less and lower their body temperature so they don’t need to eat as much. Sounds like a smart plan when dinner is 💩!
