Yonge and Dundas Square

Yonge-Dundas Square is a 1 acre outdoor public and event space at the corner of Yonge and Dundas streets in downtown Toronto.

Designed to be a public meeting space for this downtown community, it hosts many festivals, celebrations and street performers throughout the year.

The Square is located across the street from the CF Toronto Eaton Centre and when not used for events in the summer, has publicly accessible dancing fountains and seating areas.  At the east end of the Square, there is a permanent stage on which concerts are regularly held.

Due to its location immediately above Dundas subway station, it is an ideal meeting place for visitors to Toronto. Aside from being easily accessible by public transportation, the Square is also the starting point for hop on hop off bus tours, and has free wifi for those waiting to meet up with friends. Needless to say, this makes the Square a great place for people watching and street photographers.

Personally, I prefer visiting the Square at night when the surrounding signs illuminate the areas as if it were the middle of the afternoon. My personal favourite is the old Sam the Record Man sign, which was recently restored and installed above the Square.

I’d love to see any shots you have of Yonge Dundas Square – and I’d also appreciate hearing what you liked about about this post! Until then, a few more shots of the Square!
