47 Mile Sports Complex

The 47 Mile Sports Complex is an arena located in the heart of Clinton, just one block from the main street. The arena features a regulation-sized ice surface from November until early March, a concession, warming room, sound system, and change rooms.

The arena features public skating, drop-in hockey, men’s, women’s, and co-ed hockey, and special events throughout the season. The full schedule of winter activities can be found on the Village website.

The 47 Mile Sports Complex is available for rentals year-round. Book the ice for private lessons, birthday parties, group events, skating practices, fundraising tournaments, and almost any other event you might have. The large space is also ideal for hosting events when the ice is off; tradeshows, indoor markets, performances, indoor practices, community events, and concerts would all be at home in the space. CLINTON CURLING ARENA

Clinton Curling Arena

The Clinton Curling Arena is a multi-purpose community space.

During the winter months, the Clinton Curling Club hosts scheduled league games and practices from November to March. New members are always welcome to come and try the sport! The arena is also home to events, bonspiels, and tournaments each year, inviting local and regional teams to compete.

The curling arena is available for year-round rental. Host your own on-ice events in the winter or use the barefloor surface in the summer for events and meetings. The downstairs features approx. 1800 sq ft of concretefloored space, a concession, and a small seating area. The upstairs lounge can accommodate up to 75 attendees and has a bar area for providing service. Tables and chairs are included in the rental fee.

Clinton Fitness Centre

The Clinton Fitness Centre features a variety of cardio and weight equipment. Available to monthly members 24 hours a day. Users must be at least 17 years old. Full details on memberships are available on the Village website or visit the Village office.

CLINTON MEMORIAL HALL

Clinton Memorial Hall

Clinton Memorial Hall was built in 1920 to honour the WW1 Veterans. This historic building features a maple hardwood spring floor, one of only a few in the country.

Ideal for hosting weddings, dances, dinners, memorial services, productions, conferences and more.

Reg Conn Park

This 5-acre park is located just off the highway in Clinton and is the perfect location for events, reunions, and celebrations. Large grassy areas, picnic tables, mature trees for shade, a playground, public washrooms, a walking path, benches, a bandshell, and an outdoor shelter create the perfect space for our community and visitors.

Cut Off Valley Trail is a lane-way walking path that starts at Reg Conn Park. A pleasant stroll through our residential area and alongside pastures and fields.

Clinton Dog Park

This fenced-in park is perfect for your fourlegged companions to stretch their paws and make new friends. Located less than a block from the highway, it is the ideal pit stop on your next road trip.

OFF-LEASH DOG PARK ETIQUETTE

• Owners must be present and have voice control over their dogs.

• The dogs should be fully capable of passive interaction with people and other dogs.

• Dogs must have a valid license and current vaccinations.

• Owners must carry a leash at all times.

• If your dog becomes unruly or plays rough, leash him and leave immediately.

• Owners are responsible for damage and injury inflicted, use park at own risk.

LOCAL PARKS & TRAILS

Tin Can Trail

Accessible from several spots in Clinton, this trail is popular for mountain biking and hiking in the Village. Interpretive signage accompanies a logging arch and other historic equipment along the trail.

Trail Info: Singletrack, natural ground, 200 m elevation change.

Fennel Trail

Fennell Trail is a 2.5 km loop located at the north end of Clinton. The trail is open to hiking, walking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Benches at the top offer a breathtaking view of the valley and farmland below. This trail also connects to Tin Can Trail.

HISTORIC WALKING TRAIL

Historic Walking trail

Visit twenty-five different locations as you stroll through Clinton exploring unique shops, charming restaurants, and beautiful scenery. This historic walking tour features notable buildings, pioneer cemeteries, original portions of the Cariboo Wagon Road, and more.

The walking tour booklets are available from the Village Office, the Clinton Museum, or digitally on the Village of Clinton’s website.

Big Bar Ski Trails

From Clinton, travel North on Hwy 97 to the Big Bar Lake turnoff. Turn onto Big Bar Lake Road and follow the road for approximately 6 km to the main parking area.

For the beginner, Reg Conn Park serves as the perfect spot to take a few practice laps. Clinton’s Fennell and Tin Can trails are right in town and offer kilometers of paths to explore. Nearby Big Bar Ski Trails have over 25 kilometers of trails varying from beginner to intermediate. The longer trails have shelters for warming up and resting, making for a perfect way to spend the day!

From Clinton, travel North on Hwy 97 to the Big Bar Lake turnoff. Turn onto Big Bar Lake Road and follow the road for approximately 6 km to the main parking area.

The large field at Reg Conn Park is a superb canvas, the flat terrain is a great place to practice your stride on skis. The Big Bar Ski Trails are 16 kilometers north of Clinton and feature 26 kilometers of trails ranging from beginner to advance, warming shelters, and amazing views of the Marble Mountain Range.

The Curling Rink is operated in partnership with the Clinton Curling Club. Curling begins in November and runs until March each year, participate by joining a league or drop in to try it out.

Gravel Biking

Gravel biking is just what it sounds like: riding a bike on gravel roads and trails. The ride is a bit bumpier than pavement but you don’t need a special bike. You will find some amazing views on the roads around Clinton. For a guided experience Tutti Gravel Inn is a welcoming and fun base for everyone to gather and explore the beauty of the South Cariboo.

Swimming

Take a dip in nearby Kelly Lake, Green Lake, or Big Bar Lake. Each location features a dayuse area complete with a picnic area and washrooms.

RECREATIONAL TRAILS

Porcupine Creek/Lime Ridge

SITE DESCRIPTION

Porcupine Creek trails are scenic hiking and horseback riding routes that lead to the fabulous Porcupine Creek Canyon. There are two trail options. A shorter trail begins from a small rustic campsite, while a longer trail begins a little further up the road. The longer trail should take about 3 hours to hike.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Clinton, head southwest on Kelly Lake Road towards Kelly Lake. Travel approximately 16 km and turn right/north onto the Jesmond Road. Travel 5.3 km and turn right onto the access road. From here, the road is narrow and four-wheel drive is recommended. Continue approximately 5 km to the first trailhead, where there is a small campsite with an outhouse and a log corral. The second and longer trail is about 700 meters further up the road from the campsite.

Haller And Grinder Recreation Trails

SITE DESCRIPTION

A network of horseback riding and hiking trails offering spectacular views of the Fraser River, the Haller and Grinder Recreation Trails are restricted to NON-MOTORIZED use only. The Grinder Trail is the northern loop, and is about 16 km in length, and it brings users to a viewpoint high above the Fraser River on Mount Kostering. This trail takes approximately 4 to 6 hours to complete on horseback, allowing for rest stops and a lunch break. The Haller Trail is the southern loop, about 22 km in length, and is an all-day horseback riding trip that takes about 6 to 8 hours to complete.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Clinton, head southwest on Kelly Lake Road towards Kelly Lake. Travel approximately 16 km and turn right/north onto the Jesmond Road. Travel approximately 24 km and turn left to access the trailhead to the Haller Trail loop.

Mount Bowman Trail

SITE DESCRIPTION

This trail provides good access for hikers looking to explore the limestone mountains of the Marble Range Provincial Park. The trailhead is the access point for two popular hikes: Mt. Bowman and Wild Horse Ridge / Mt. Kerr. The Mt. Bowman trail goes to the north of the trailhead while the longer trail to Wild Horse Ridge and Mount Kerr heads east. The trails are not well marked but the route is fairly obvious. Some of the ascents up to the summit will require some moderately difficult scrambling over steep limestone slopes and ledges with loose rocks.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Trail Head Location 51.164873 N, 121.921887 W (Decimal Degrees) From Clinton, head west on Kelly Lake Road. Travel 16 km and then turn right (north) onto Jesmond Road. Drive 23.8 km, 1 km past the Circle H Mountain Lodge turn right onto a rough dirt road. The road is only suitable for high-clearance vehicles. Travel 0.7 km to transmission lines and turn right. Follow the road 0.8 km to a clearing on the north side of a small creek. Stay left and proceed 0.3 km to end of the road.

Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail

SITE DESCRIPTION

The Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail offers snowmobile enthusiasts a very unique opportunity to explore hundreds of kilometers of snowmobile trails through the heart of the Cariboo Chilcotin. The trail currently extends from Clinton in the south to Likely in the north. There are several warming huts located along the trail. Although snowmobiling is the primary intended use of the trail, other permitted uses include ATVing, horseback riding, hiking, and cycling during the summer months.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

There are numerous locations to access the trail, depending on where you would like to begin your journey. An easy access point is north of Clinton at the Big Bar Ski Trail staging area on Big Bar Road. Other access points are Ainsworth Road south of 100 Mile House, Stormy Road north of 70 Mile House, Butler Road at the north end of Lac La Hache, and Spout Lake Road northeast of Lac La Hache.

RECREATIONAL TRAILS (CONT.)

Jesmond Fire Lookout

SITE DESCRIPTION

The Jesmond Fire Lookout recreation site is a former fire lookout tower built in the early 1970’s. The lookout tower is located on an exposed ridge, at an elevation of about 1980 meters, and winds in excess of 120 km/h have been recorded at the site. Visitors are encouraged to park at a clearing about 500 meters before the tower, at treeline, and walk or ATV the remainder of the way to the lookout.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Access is via a rough, four-wheel drive road. From Clinton, head southwest on Kelly Lake Road towards Kelly Lake. Travel approximately 16 km and turn right/north onto the Jesmond / Big Bar Ferry Road. Follow the Jesmond Road for about 37 km, and then turn right onto the Jesmond Lookout Forest Service Road. Follow the signs to the lookout from here (about 11 km). An alternate route is also signed from the north via Big Bar Road (access is via Hwy 97, north of Clinton), just a few kilometers past the Big Bar Provincial Park campsite. The last few kilometers of the road heading up to the lookout are best travelled by ATV, as the road gets quite steep and narrow, with several tight switchbacks and loose rock near the very top of the road.

Big Bar Cross Country Ski Trails

SITE DESCRIPTION

The Big Bar Ski Trail network offers approximately 26 km of cross country ski trails ranging in difficulty from beginner to advanced. Skiers will enjoy spectacular views of the Marble Range and 51 Creek Canyon. In the warmer seasons the trails are perfect for hiking and walking.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Clinton, travel North on Hwy 97 to the Big Bar Lake turnoff. Turn onto Big Bar Lake road and follow the road for approximately 6 km to the main parking area.

Located right in the beautiful Village of Clinton, Clinton Pines RV Park & Campground has RV sites available for trailers and RVs up to 12 meters / 40 feet in length. This RV park is conveniently located just adjacent to Highway 97 and is quiet, peaceful yet conveniently located.

PROVINCIAL CAMPSITES

Downing Provincial Park

SITE DESCRIPTION

This is a small but popular park that almost encircles attractive Kelly Lake. Views of mountains including 2,245 metre Mount Bowman, a spectacular mountain ridge visible from the nearby Jesmond Road, give the park a remote atmosphere, though it is located close to Clinton.

From Clinton travel 18 km southwest on Kelly Lake Rd.

Big Bar Provincial Park

Situated approximately 42 kilometres northwest of Clinton, the lake offers clear waters inviting to the avid angler. The park is a popular family camping destination, and also offers a large lakeside picnic area. DRIVING

From Clinton travel north on Hwy 97 for 8 km, turn onto Big Bar Rd and travel 34 km on a gravel road to the park.

SITE DESCRIPTION

The recreation site at Beaverdam Lake is in an open grassy area suitable for horseback use and offers spectacular views of the Marble Mountain Range. It is also a popular location for camping, boating, and fishing.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Clinton travel North on Hwy 97 approximately 15 km. Turn left onto Meadow Lake Road and follow for 10 km to Beaverdam Lake.

Riley Dam

SITE DESCRIPTION

This semi-open recreation site is located on Riley Lake, a small lake which was formed by the construction of a dam on Big Bar Creek. This site is a popular fishing and picnicking location.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Clinton travel north on Hwy 97 for 10 km. Turn west onto the Big Bar (3600) Road and follow for approximately 42 km to the recreation site.

Little Big Bar Lake

SITE DESCRIPTION

The recreation site lies on the southern shore of Little Big Bar Lake and offers 6 campsites in a semi open setting. The site is used for fishing, boating, and camping.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From Clinton drive north on Hwy 97 for 10 km. Turn west onto Big Bar Lake road and travel for 40 km. Turn right onto a secondary road and follow for 2 km. Turn left onto the access road into Little Big Bar Lake.
