6 prisoners were beaten by a group of 30-40 prison guards, when they were taken to attend the DGS examinations, for not standing up when the register was being read out.
Another repression against prisoners and arbitrary treatment of the guards have been recorded. Such artbitrary treatments in prison have become inevitable despite the fact that it has been on the media several times.
Hizbollah case prisoner Mithat Yilmaz from Kocaeli prison sent a fax to Ilke News Agency (ILKHA) exposing the atrocities perpetuated against inmates in prison. He reports that they went from Maltepe Prison to Kocaeli Prison for the DGS examination. While they were having breakfast the register was taken and a group of 30-40 prison guards beat them up with the excuse that they hadn’t stood up for the register. Yilmaz stated that he wrote the fax so that the cruelties of the cruel would be dechifered and in hope that the prisoners after him would not face any of those cruelties.
They made me lie face down and swooped on me
Yilmaz reported that they went to Maltepe 1 Numbered L Type Prison with 5 prisoners to take the DGS examination and said, “We didn’t come across any problems in the entrance to the prison. We sat the exam too. When they came to take the register in the morning we were seated on the floor having breakfast, as there were no chairs left. They told us to stand up but we didn’t. They weren’t happy with that. M. Ali Koc who came with us was at the door trying to explain some of the necessities that we were lacking in the cell. They were waiting in a large group at the door. All of a sudden noises began to rise at the door. We went next to them to calm the situation down. As soon as we went they had raised their voices even more, the group of 30-40 people started pushing us to get inside. They beat up two prisoners, handcuffed and took them. Meanwhile, some of them began to punch me while others were holding me. Someone came and hit me hard behind my ear. I lost partial sensation on my ear and it felt very heavy. They dragged me out, made me lie down and swooped on me. Later they took us back to the cells.”
My eardrum punctured from the beat
Yilmaz claimed that he went to the prison doctor to get an assault report but the doctor did not show interest and did not refer him to a hospital. He says, “However when I was sent back to my prison I got a checked by the doctor there and was referred to the hospital straight away. After the examination, I was told that my ear was bleeding internally and that my eardrum had punctured so they patched it straight away. We sent a criminal complaint to Maltepe Republic Prosecution and requested for court processes. The camera recordings can also be studied if they don’t get played with. (ILKHA)
