Aida Makoto – Monument for Nothing

In Japan we visited one of the most amazing exhibitions I have seen in my life. Mori Art Museum, situated in Roppongi Hills was exhibiting the work of contemporary Japanese Artist Aida Makoto, we spent around 4 hours taking it all in, and throughout the experience I had to keep reminding myself that the 100+ works were all done by the one artist. His work included was very humorous whilst making many comments on politics and traditional Japanese art, whilst much of his art was created simply because aesthetically he just liked it; there was no underlying meaning behind it. It was very refreshing to experience such a large array of works from photographs, installations, drawings, animations and videos all done by the same artist. It was inspiring in a way that makes me want to experiment with many different elements of photography but also try and incorporate other art mediums into this to build on my skill level.
