A serious accident north of Clinton closed Highway 97 in both directions for three-and-a-half hours on Sunday. The road then opened to single-lane traffic and finally opened in both directions at 8 p.m.

The BC Ambulance Service confirms they were called at 1:48 p.m. to a location about 11 kilometres north of Clinton.

Cpl. Brandon Buliziuk with Clinton RCMP says two vehicles collided head-on and then hit a third vehicle. One driver was seriously hurt and had to be airlifted to hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time. The two other drivers were shaken up, but did not need medical treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and a RCMP analyst is on scene. Buliziuk says heavy rain in the area may have been a factor.
