TORONTO — Canadian actress Cobie Smulders has been forced to drop out of HBO’s upcoming Confirmation due to an injury.
Confirmation chronicles the U.S. Supreme Court hearings for Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce) that included dramatic testimony by law professor Anita Hill (Kerry Washington).
Zoe Lister-Jones (New Girl, Whitney) will take over the role of Harriet Grant, chief counsel for the Judiciary Committee Nominations Unit.
Smulders, 33, is a Vancouver native who is best known for her run on How I Met Your Mother and for playing Maria Hill in the Avengers movies.
According to Us Weekly, Smulders suffered a broken leg before she was scheduled to film her scenes.
A rep for Smulders could not be reached.
In April, the star revealed she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when she was 25. “I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free,” she said.
Smulders and her husband, SNL star Taran Killam welcomed a son earlier this year.
