We recently found this 1967 picture of The Ring O' Bells, looking a little, but not too much different to how it is now.

When this photo was taken, construction was just about to begin on the M56, and hundreds of families were moving to Frodsham to work for companies such as BICC.

But The Ring O' Bells had already been standing for many years previous to this.

In its long life, the seventeenth-century Grade II listed pub has witnessed an Industrial Revolution, two World Wars and the rise of our best-known secret agent: James Bond himself.

Yes, while his father, Tim, was its landlord, The Ring O' Bells was home to a young Daniel Craig.

While its outside appearance has changed gradually over the years, on its inside the building still retains several period features, including an altered inglenook.

An inglenook is a small enclosed area around a hearth, designed to trap the heat from the fire and create a cosy meeting place.

The term comes from the Scottish Gaelic and Irish word aingeal ('angel'), referring to the brilliant light of the flames, and 'nook'.

Just to add to the pub's ancient feel, outside you will find two glacial erratics: rocks transported from a distant home soil by moving ice sheets and then deposited in Frodsham thousands of years ago.

Returning to the present once again, The Ring O' Bells is currently living through yet another major global event.

During lockdown, the pub is remaining open for takeaway tea, coffee and hot chocolate. From Thursday to Sunday, you can also pick up a meal from their varied menu, which includes Sunday roasts.
