There are a lot of recent-issue candy boxes with fun card sets; this is the first one that I decided to collect. Popeye cartoons were a staple of my youth; they were produced from approximately 1930 until 1957. Most of the stories followed a basic theme - this grizzled old sailor man gets brutalized, antagonized and bullied until he just "can't takes it no more", at which time, he manages to produce a can of spinach from his person, magically opens it and pours it in his mouth, which product is transferred directly to his forearm, which, bulging with muscle, delivers the wallop(s) to decimate his antagonist. As a child, this message was awesome to me and, to this day, leaf spinach is still my favorite vegetable. Are the cartoons politically correct? Probably not, but, at 72, neither am I. This set captures the top 20 "Famous Popeye Punches", complete with illustrations, recipient and delivery date. I just got these 8 boxes. I understand there are some nuances to this set (with and without Arabic, etc.) but I'm just looking forward to getting the other 12 boxes and figure out a way to display them in a fun manner.

There is a little more than just "nuances"! I hope you're ready for a challenge. While researching Phoenix Candy boxes, I also archived and tried to document World Candy boxes as well. Without doing a deep dive on the World Candy boxes, I documented at least 5 different types of these Popeye candy boxes! Below is a screen capture of my Excel documentation... (sorry it is hard to read, the site decides how big the image is) Your boxes appear to be what I have as "type 2" boxes... Here are just a few of the different boxes...

Incomparable work Lonnie! One of my eight differs from the other 7; it's an L5320; same as L5213 ( which my other 7 boxes are), I think. Here are scans of every panel: FWIW - all of my L5213 boxes have a yellow bottom flap, where the L7028s you show have a white bottom flap.

Mark, I think I'm going to have to do a deep dive on these Popeye boxes! The L5320 box makes 6 different box types now! I also noticed it does not say "Made In U.S.A." as the other "Cut-Out..." boxes do. I don't know if the "Fun Cartoon..." boxes say "Made In U.S.A." as I was never able to find side panel images, but I'll do some searching a see what I can find. I also noticed that the boxes that say "Cut-Out and Collect Cards..." have orange Spinach cans, while the boxes that say "Fun Cartoon..." have blue Spinach cans. On one of my images, you can make out the stamped expiration date MAR 2001, so these were sold for many years, just like all the World Candy boxes... that probably helps explain the many different variations. I'll let you know what I find out.
