Our family has our own twist on poutine. It’s a poutine recipe with meat (pulled pork, to be more specific), and definitely not your usual, authentic Canadian poutine. I like to call this pulled pork poutine “Texas Poutine” since it is a queso, pulled pork, and BBQ poutine. There’s never a single fry leftover when our family makes this BBQ pulled pork poutine recipe, and it’s really easy to throw together. How to make pulled pork poutine
To make this pulled pork poutine recipe, start by preheating the oven to 425 degrees F. Spread a 28-ounce pack of frozen French fries onto a baking sheet (I love using the Super Crispy Crinkle Cut Fries from Grown in Idaho for recipes like this… see more in my Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole recipe) and bake in the preheated oven for 22 minutes. Note that this is a few minutes less than the cooking time on the package directions.
Remove the fries from the oven (keeping the temperature at 425 degrees) and transfer the fries to a large oven-safe skillet. I use a big cast iron skillet for this BBQ poutine.
We use melted white queso instead of cheese curds for our Texas Poutine. For the white queso, use 8 ounces of white (queso blanco) easy melt cheese. Cube the cheese, then place the cubes into a heat-safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds.
Add 2 tablespoons of milk to the bowl and stir, then microwave for 30 seconds more. Stir until the milk and cheese are completely blended together.
Drizzle approximately 3/4 of the cheese sauce over the fries in the skillet (you’ll be using the rest of the cheese later).
Top the fries and cheese with the pulled pork. I like to use a pack of prepared pulled pork to save time, but this is also a great recipe for using leftover pulled pork after a BBQ.
Pour your favorite BBQ sauce over the fries and pulled pork. Since this is a BBQ poutine, we use BBQ sauce and pulled pork instead of gravy like traditional poutine recipes.
Now it’s time to use that reserved queso! Drizzle the remaining melted cheese over the top of everything. The BBQ pulled pork poutine toppings are sandwiched in queso! See why I call it Texas Poutine?
Place the skillet in the oven to bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the pulled pork is heated through and the fries are your desired crispness. After removing the BBQ pulled pork poutine from the oven, top it with chopped pickled jalapenos, if desired.
Yes, this poutine with pulled pork tastes just as good as it looks!
This poutine pulled pork is also really easy to throw together!
Like I said, there is never a single fry leftover when our family makes Texas Poutine. Here’s the BBQ pulled pork poutine recipe! Enjoy, and please leave a rating if you love it as much as we do.
