Selah Sue
ESNS: 2012
Try and find someone who doesn't love Selah Sue. The young singer and songwriter from Belgium collaborated with the biggest names in music. With only her voice and a guitar she mesmerizes large audiences. She stole the hearts of music lovers in Belgium, France and The Netherlands. And not only the hearts of music lovers, famous musicians also enlisted Selah Sue. The young singer from Leuven, Belgium was offered the support spot for the Prince concert in Belgium. She asked Cee Lo Green for the duet , he liked the outcome so much that he put the song on his album The Lady Killer. And we haven't even mentioned the collaboration with Moby or the many support shows she did for famous artists. But she can stand on her own two feet. Selah Sue is more than just a girl with a guitar. You can drop her in any given time and place in music history and she will be able to sing along. You'll hear that talent on her double platinum eponymous debut album. When listening to her and hearing about her accomplishments you'd almost forget that Selah Sue is only 22. The album Selah Sue does not only contain the Cee Lo collaboration , but also the song Mommy recorded together with Meshell Ndegeocello. Just two of twelve songs in total in which Selah Sue bears her soul and sings about her sometimes troubled emotions. Many of the songs were written when she was still in her teens, with just a guitar and her characteristic voice. When recorded these are songs going beyond the music of her idols Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill or M.I.A.. Although she played almost every festival and venue in Belgium and The Netherlands audiences keep turning up in large numbers for her concerts. That is because no one will leave disappointed after seeing Selah Sue perform.
