The results are in for the 2011 FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll. The new winner takes the crown from Australia’s own Jennifer Hawkins who’s been a fixture in the top 10 since 2005 and Miranda Kerr who was at the top of the list in 2010.
2011’s crown goes to International pop superstar, currently touring Australia, KATY PERRY.
According to FHM readers in Australia and New Zealand who voted in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011 poll, Katy Perry is the world’s sexiest woman.
Perry received over 5000 votes, Hawkins and Kerr received slightly over and under 4000 respectively. Kerr attracted almost as many votes in 2011 as she did in 2010, even though she has only recently given birth to her first child. More than 700 women gained a piece of more than 150,000 votes in this years poll.
“That’s amazing,” said Perry when FHM presented her with her framed cover and congratulated her on behalf of Australian men and FHM readers. “Thank you so much, I love the cover. So, what number did I come?” When FHM editor Guy Mosel explained that she had won, Perry did a double-take. “I won? Really? Wow, I can’t believe it. Are you
sure?”
There is a record 33 Australian’s on the list, 1 in 3 of the World’s 100 Sexiest Women come from our glorious country, which is something for us to celebrate.
Newly married Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton made it into the list at 98, after last appearing in 2009. FHM editor Guy Mosel explained that had voting not closed before last week’s royal wedding he thought Kate would have polled much higher, and her sister Pippa would have raked in her fair share of votes too.
Lisa Wilkinson is best known for her partnership on the Today show with Gold Logie winner Karl Stefanovic, this year she also debuted on the 100 Sexiest Women List at 99.
Another surprise debut in the 2011 poll is 65-year-old Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, who is not entirely comfortable with the idea. This is what she had to say when FHM asked her if it made her happy that a woman of her age could be seen as sexy:
“It’s cool and uncool because for one thing, you just want to be who you are in a free and open and natural way, and not be pigeonholed into anything,” Mirren said. “Any label stuck on anyone is limiting, and ultimately kind of annoying.
“It’s flattering of course, and I will accept that, the flattery side of it. But the other thing that is getting a little bit annoying to me is… I’ve got my Dolce & Gabbana on, and I’ve got my [stomach] sucked in because I want you guys to see me not like a nanny basically. But I hate the pressure that women put on other women constantly. I don’t like the pressure men put on women even worse, but it really makes me angry when women put pressure on other women. You know, stop! Stop it.”
When FHM suggested she was admired for looking fantastic all the time, Mirren responded: “That’s not a reason to admire anyone. You admire people for going to work in Haiti and not looking fantastic. I really admire Sean Penn for what he’s done in Haiti, not looking great, but doing great. I don’t mean to be po-faced about it, but you know, I think we should really get our values in place a little bit.”
The full 100 sexiest Women in the World 2011 list will be released in FHM’s June issue which is on sale May 9.
