About the LCBO

Overview

Our Mission

We are a best-in-class, customer-first, responsible retailer and wholesaler supporting our local communities and delivering value to Ontarians.

Our Vision

To deliver remarkable experiences as the trusted destination for the world’s wines, beers and spirits.

The LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) is an Ontario government enterprise and one of the world’s largest buyers and retailers of beverage alcohol. Through more than 660 retail stores, catalogues, e-Commerce, special order services, close to 400 LCBO Convenience Outlets, which provide cost effective, convenient and socially responsible access for rural consumers, and as wholesaler to almost 450 Grocery stores, the LCBO offers more than 28,000 products annually, from more than 80 countries, to consumers and licensed establishments.

Net income from LCBO sales goes to the province in the form of an annual dividend. Through expansion and refreshing of our store network, together with improvements to operational efficiency and the customer shopping experience, the LCBO has been able to increase its fiscal return to the government and people of Ontario each year for more than two decades. These revenues help pay for important public services including health care, education and infrastructure.

Corporate social responsibility is a key element of the LCBO’s mandate and has been since its inception in 1927. As part of our responsible service program, LCBO Retail employees demonstrate their vigilance in preventing sales to minors, those who appear intoxicated or those attempting to shop for either of those individuals every day. LCBO also has a number of initiatives encouraging responsible consumption and help prevent impaired driving.

Involvements in the community and fundraising for registered charities have always been important to LCBO. Through the commitment of our employees and the generosity of our customers, we continue to help countless Ontarians in communities throughout the province.

As a major retailer, we have a responsibility to minimize our environmental footprint and contribute positively to environmental sustainability and stewardship in our province. The LCBO has initiated many environmental programs, including a global shift toward lightweight glass containers to minimize waste, improve energy efficiency and reduce negative impact on the environment.

The LCBO also has a responsibility to the buying public to help ensure the products we sell are safe to drink and authentic. The LCBO Quality Assurance laboratory conducts more than 630,000 tests annually. This helps ensure that all products sold by the LCBO and Ontario winery outlets and beer stores comply with the federal Food and Drugs Act and Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and their related regulations, as well as the LCBO’s high standards for quality and taste.
