Description

Historic Properties, Downtown, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Privateers' Wharf. The name of this place - as well as a huge catalogue of folk songs, stories, and other traditions - testify to the significance of the warehouses on Halifax's waterfront as a base of operations for privateers who plundered merchant ships (especially American vessels during the War of 1812) and sold off their goods. Today, the Historic Properties have been restored into a tourist-friendly complex of art galleries, gift shops, restaurants, and museums.
