After a long break I have at last gotten back into the groove of writing a new centaur transformation short story. I have another piece of TF bubbling up fast and intend to produce it by next weekend. And, if I can maintain my creative energy I may return to writing new installments of Coptaur. Don’t hold your breaths just yet. The best laid plans . . .
The following story features gay love and is meant for adults only. Anyone under the Age of Consent (18) should move along now. So should creatures who disapprove of gay love.

Moonlight Ride
“Jesus, could it get more hot?”
Fairleigh knew that scientists were predicting bad things ahead. Global warming and all that. The same stuff his Baptist cousins claimed was Satan discounting the Lord. Bur Fair wouldn’t have any of that ignorant claptrap. He knew better. His cousins sat on their fat asses in air-conditioned offices while he busted his butt working on his friend Rainer’s ranch. All around him he saw signs of rapidly changing conditions. The signs were, frankly, scary.
Fair wasn’t a kid anymore and his body, despite hours of intense labor produced conditioning, had begun to feel its age. He knew he looked great for a 49-year old man. Most guys would have killed to have a physique like his. Still, pretty was only skin deep and beneath that skin his body was reporting aches and pains he’d never felt before. He was bone weary and wondered how much longer he’d be able to work so hard.
The heat of August wasn’t helping any and, after tossing and turning and turning some more, Fair decided to get some relief. He rose from his clammy bed and looked out the bedroom window across the main pasture to where the creek lay. The full moon was casting its shimmering light across the oak trees and the scene looked inviting to Fair. He didn’t bother to get dressed. Nobody but the horses and goats would see him walking out to his favorite bathing spot. It was three-thirty and he would have wagered that only he was crazy enough to go swimming this late.
Fair grabbed a disposable lighter and fished a joint from the back of his bed stand drawer. He seldom smoked the herb these days, but feeling the way he did it just might help him to relax. Slipping on his boots he exited through the open window and proceeded to make his way to the line of trees and shrub on the near horizon.
The horses were bedded down in the stables and he didn’t expect any late night encounters though he wouldn’t have minded. He much preferred his four-legged friends to most humans. Horses, he believed, never fucked with you unless you fucked with them first. As long as you treat animals with respect they’ll return the favor. If you loved them then they were more than ready to love you right back. That was the main reason he enjoyed animal company. People were busy playing games. Horses weren’t occupied with anything more than being their horse selves. “What you see is what you get.” He whispered the tired cliché aloud and kept walking.
A faint breeze made a slight effort to cool off his sweaty body. It felt good for the moment. Fair was sure the creek’s water would feel much better. He pushed past the screen of tall grass and other vegetation to the quiet spot he had used for decades. Just being there brought up many good memories. The fun he’d had with his friends skinny-dipping and smoking weed away from Rainer’s folks who were pretty cool characters, but not so cool they’d have ignored teenagers getting ripped on illegal substances.
It was at this sweet spot that Fair and Rainer first made love. He still could feel the amazing pleasure of that surprise. He’d always wanted his friend but had no idea the desire was mutual. The boys were fifteen and from that evening in July ‘79 to this day were closely bonded. As men there’d been many changes, not the least of which was Rainer marrying and having a flock of kids. Fair admired what a good family man his buddy had become but he never had any intention of following in his breeder footsteps. Their good sex times were just memories now and nothing that was ever mentioned even in intimate conversation.
Fair had been smitten with a young fellow the previous year, but Mac took off without a warning or a goodbye. One night they were making passionate love and the next day he’d disappeared. Fair had guessed Mac was scared of love and hightailed it. He’d been upset at the separation and fought off a bout of depression in its wake. “Damn you Mac!” Fair cursed to the dark water. “Just when it was getting’ good, too.” He broke a twig in his hands and threw the pieces like segments of his bottled-up frustration into the smooth and reflective surface. The small impacts broke up the reflection of the full moon. In a few seconds the giant nightlight returned to its full spherical form sitting on the water as if it were a place to escape.
Fair shed his boots and lit the joint. He sat on a flat rock and let his feet dangle in the cool water. He wasn’t expecting the water to be as cold as it was considering how hot the night air was. Taking a long slow toke he inhaled the pungent smoke and in mere seconds felt the weed’s effect. He began to relax completely. It was as if all the rigidity that had plagued his body was expelled in one rush. Fair felt limp and lowered his melting body into the bracing darkness.
“God, that feels good. Just what I needed.” He floated and listened as the crickets sang. Off a ways he could hear an owl hooting and wondered how small varmints were faring in the light of the moon. Not well he suspected. Owls were prime predators and a night like this was perfect for snaring voles and other nocturnal critters. He envied the owl’s abilities. Especially flying. For a brief instant he felt himself soaring on the wings of his high until his attention was snapped back by a noise.
He could swear he heard footsteps. No, not footsteps; hoof beats. He turned his head slightly and eyed the intruder. There at the water’s edge was his equine friend, Brighty. The young Appie stallion’s coat shone in the moonlight. The white spots that speckled his rump like snowflakes falling on grey ashes looked like stars in the light. Fair had always felt if he were a horse he’d have wanted to be just like his friend. A more beautiful example of equine pulchritude would have been hard to find.
Not just that. Rainer had dubbed the horse Brightline because he was about the smartest horse anyone had encountered. His personality was bold and secure. The animal definitely showed his pride. But there wasn’t a mean or arrogant bone in the beautiful beast. Rainer had determined that Brighty would be the sire to an entire line of smarter and better horses. He was counting on great things from the young stud. So alone out of all the colts that year Brighty wasn’t gelded.
Fair had been there when the Appie dam, Sophie, delivered her first foal. Rainer had been concerned that the inexperienced mare would have some difficulty so he called on his vet, Dr. Hollingsworth and Fair to attend the birthing. Fortunately, Rainer’s worries were unfounded. In a few quick thrusts Sophie ejected the sac full of Brighty. She licked off and ate the placenta a little later under the dim yellow bug light that filled her stall.
Brighty got his bearings and stood for the first time. He was a sight to behold. His mother nudged him, licked his muzzle, and then let out a whinny that echoed through the barn.
“She’s announcing his arrival. That little fella is a real beauty, Rain. You should be proud.” Doc Hollingsworth exclaimed.
“Reckon the ones who should be proud are Sophie here and her stud, Star Chaser. They did all the work. I’ve just been watching and waiting along with Fair here. Like two old brood hens.”
The men laughed together as Brighty took to his dam’s swollen utters. Fair had never felt so connected to a horse as he did this one. He made certain to be nearby as much as possible and watched the colt develop into a fine stallion.
“What’s up, Mister Brighty? Smell the dope did ya?” Fair splashed some water at the horse but Brighty didn’t even flinch. Instead the stallion walked right into the pool with Fair. Like they were midnight swimming buddies. Skinny-dipping the night away. Fair laughed but was amazed when the animal managed to cross under his floating body and then lift him onto his back.
“Why I never. What are you up to, Bright Eyes?”
Fair had to adjust himself quickly as the horse carried him out of the creek and broke into a gallop. He’d never been on Brighty before. In fact, no one had. The young stallion wasn’t broken yet though everybody at the ranch knew Fair would be the one to whisper him. Fair was so good with horses that every time he mentioned making for other parts Rainer raised his wages for fear of losing his best hand. It was general knowledge that any horse ranch was only as good as the quality of its staff and the best man in what Rainer kiddingly called his “human herd” was Fair, by far. By the way Brighty was now carrying off Fair it seemed he must know that truth, too.
Fair was surprised that Brighty’s coat was much less harsh on his skin than he’d have imagined. His right hand was wrapped in the stallion’s jet-black mane while his left hand ran down the horse’s smooth coat. He could feel the finely tuned muscles undulating as the animal moved. He’d never had the opportunity to ride a horse like this. Naked, cooled by the wind the horse made running though the warm night air. Fair closed his eyes and relaxed dreaming a little in his pot-induced buzz of how it would be to be forever connected to such a fine beast.
Again his attention was snapped forward when he thought he heard something unknown break the calm night. Something louder than hoof beats, but still indistinct. Was it a voice? He listened closer as best he could. There was a rhythm to the sound like words being chanted. But he had no idea what the words were or where exactly they were coming from. He felt he ought to be scared by such a strange occurrence, but instead his native curiosity was suddenly peaked.
Fair lay his torso closer to Brighty’s neck. “Follow that voice, Brighty.” He said into the animal’s alert ear. Brighty proved his worth at that point and headed of toward the chanting sound.
The voice became louder and at last Fair began to make sense of the words chanted though he still couldn’t make out who was doing the chant. Instead of goose bumps breaking out across his naked flesh Fair felt more relaxed and as calm as he’d ever felt before. “Man this must be the best dope I’ve ever smoked.” Brighty snickered as if he was agreeing and with a few more hoof beats stopped at the edge of the pine forest that bordered the main pasture.
As the chanting became louder Fair became more relaxed until he felt a trance close in soft and warm around him. He felt profoundly good. Forgetting any pains or aches or even his aging. Why, if he didn’t know better, he would have sworn he felt like a totally new man. Calm. Contented and closely connected to both the sound of the chanting and the body of the horse he was riding.
Brighty entered the forest and the light of the moon fractured among the branches and trunks as the horse weaved his way through the trees and toward the rhythmic chanting.
Fair took in the words and found he was almost unconsciously repeating them in his head. It was as if they were familiar words to him. As if the chant was one he knew and now was the time to remember it. To say it aloud, and so, he soon came to speak the words in unison with the voice. A voice he was beginning to recognize.
Centaur know, centaur feel
Centaur show, centaur real
He said the words with soft passion and let the chant wash over him as his connection to Brighty became more intense and vivid.
Centaur love, centaur see
Centaur touch, centaur be
Then from out of the dark woods a figure emerged and made its way toward him. It appeared to be another naked man astride his own steed. Fair realized why he knew the voice. Tough he couldn’t see the man’s face he knew it was Mac.
Had the dope suspended him in a brilliant fantasy? Was he in a dream now? No! Everything felt more real than anything he’d experienced in his almost fifty years.
The chant continued.
Made in power and in form
Fair repeated now louder along with Mac.
Fully functioning and strong
This is your new norm
This is my new norm.
And so it is you are completely
And so it is I am completely . . .
With the word ‘completely’ everything changed. He felt like he was caught in a whirlwind and his old world was spinning away to reveal a new and more ideal one. Years of rigid, falsely structured manhood fell off of him and a sinking feeling of inspiration brought him into a connection he knew he’d always craved.
Fair felt the body he was seated on close in around his lower half. Brighty nickered and twisted as his neck and head suddenly were absorbed into Fair’s chest and stomach. What incredible magic is this? In another second Fair became aware of his absolutely joining with his equine friend. Now he and Brighty shared one form.
So it is completely
You are centaur born
Fair’s entire self flushed with pleasure. His body shook in delight. His new hoofs pounded the ground as he adjusted to the miracle of his transformation. It had been so easy, so natural, so true. Beyond anything he could have imagined. Beyond even those teenage fantasies of becoming as he now was.
“At last it has happened!”
Mac moved closer and took his lover’s hand. He held it tight and brought it up to his lips and kissed Fair’s fingers.
“Oh, Fair. You cannot know how long I have waited for this time to arrive. Now we can be together eternally as what we were always meant to be. Centaurs. Lovers.”
“I thought I was dreaming, Mac. I thought the dope I’d smoked had played tricks with my mind. But this is more real than I could have dreamed. I don’t think I could feel any happier than I do now. Being here joined with Brighty and able to again know you. Oh, where have you been? I thought you’d run away forever. I’m so glad I was wrong.”
“Since I found the simple chant and translated it, since I came here on a night so much like this one, since I was changed, I have longed to have you join me. I knew we were meant to be together and that our lives, our very souls were entwined. I knew I had returned to the form that was my truth and that my purpose was to help you to remember your truth, too. Tonight was the perfect night to help you. The magic made it possible to connect with you just as I had connected with Brighty when he first came into the pasture and soon joined me in this forest. He was aware of the connection from our first meeting. Just as my “other half”, Diablo was. We were bonded to create something more wonderful and destined. Now your destiny has helped you meld into the force of Brighty.”
Mac ran his hand down the line of his lover’s jaw and placed it on his neck. Then he pulled Fair’s face close to his until their lips touched and they kissed. A kiss so strong it moved Fair to his core with an ecstasy he’d only read of in books. Mostly the kind of books and stories he never read. They were always too romantic for such a real guy. Boy was he mistaken. This real guy was all for passionate romance now. His body tingled in anticipation.
“You are one amazing four-legged stud, Fair! My stallion, at last! I am so darn happy I could fly. If it wasn’t for a rock hard erection beating like a drum stick against my big black-haired belly.”
Fair looked down to the strong shadow-casting phallus bouncing out a tattoo on his lover’s belly and smiled to himself.
“Now there’s an aching I know I can satisfy!”
The centaurs laughed and trotted off into the depths of the barrens.
Rainer never did get that line of smart foals he so desired. He lost his best hand, too.
