AK-74u

The AK74u is a sub-machine gun that has featured in both Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is known for being a relative high powered gun which has led to it becoming a fan's favourite in both games. It is also confirmed to feature in the upcoming title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[edit]

In Call of Duty 4, the AK-74u is unlocked at Rank 28 in multiplayer. It is known to be the most powerful Sub-Machine Gun, but it suffers from upward recoil, much like it's assault rifle counterpart, the AK-47. One unique trait about the AK-74u is the fact that when equipped with any attachment other than the ACOG Scope, it will suffer a reduction in hip-fire accuracy. This makes an AK-74u with no attachments one of the most popular choices, as the ACOG sight doesn't give much benefit to the player.

Attachments[edit]

You can unlock a series of attachments for the AK-74u, which are unlocked at 25 kills, 75 kills and 150 kills. These are:

The most useful attachments depending on your playstyle would the silencer and red dot sight, while the ACOG Scope is awkward when firing full auto.

Apart from these attachments, you can also unlock camouflages for the AK-74u, depending on getting a certain amount of headshots.

The AK-74u is a sub-machine gun making it's second appearance in the Call of Duty franchise. It is potentially the most used submachine gun in the game but this is understandable due to it's high power, good iron sights, and manageable recoil. After Version 1.06 the gun received a patch where if used with the attachment, Grip, the re-centred speed has been adjusted, and slowed down.

It is best at close and medium ranges and can also be used effectively at long ranges when burst firing however it is unlikely to rival the Assault Rifles in this aspect.

It is unlocked at Rank 17 and can be purchased for 2000 COD points.
