Tegan and Sara honoured with temporary Calgary bus route name

Calgary Transit is going to temporarily rename a bus route in honour of Calgary-born platinum artists Tegan and Sara.

Tegan and Sara Quin are promoting their upcoming TV series High School, and the city is renaming Route 19 to Crybaby to honour the release.

“We took a lot of public transit growing up,” said Sara Quin in a statement. “We took the CTrain, we took buses, we walked a lot – we love public transit. It was how we got to school; it was how we saw our friends.”

The twin stars were born in Calgary on Sept. 19, 1980, and used transit to attend Crescent Heights High School, which was a part of the twin’s formative years.

Crybaby is also the name of their 10th studio album, which is also being released later in the month on Oct. 21.

The route runs along 16 Avenue north, which starts at the Rundle LRT Station, and continues on through 44 stops to Lions Park LRT Station.

The Quins held a screening of their Amazon series High School at the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) on Sept. 29.

Parts of the series Highschool have been shot in Calgary, and it is based on the memoirs the twins published in 2019.
