Week 4: Scrappy Trip Around the World Quilt Along

Welcome to Week 4 of the Scrappy Trip Around the World Quilt Along!

I’m so glad that you’ve chosen to join us! A few of you have sent me photos of your progress and I’ve really enjoyed seeing them! The colour schemes you’ve chosen are gorgeous! Don’t you just love getting to work with pretty fabrics? In this case, we’re putting every last scrap of those precious beauties to use!

Now, let’s get down to business…

*If you are using a consistent colour of fabric down the centre diagonal of each block, please follow the seam ripping and pressing instructions which follow. If not, you need only to ensure that your vertical seams are pressed to the right on this week’s blocks, which we’ll refer to as your Block B’s from now on.

Last week, we assembled our Block A’s (as shown below on the left). This week, we’ll be constructing our Block B’s (shown below on the right) to complete the design. The throw-sized quilt requires 12 Block B’s. The twin-sized quilt requires 21 Block B’s.

The next photo shows the seam ripping instructions for your Block B’s. I am using dark blue as my centre diagonal fabric. Please note its placement in my Block B’s. Instead of running the centre diagonal, it has rotated up one place toward the top in each column. This time, our centre diagonal (in my case, the white) is running up (and to the right), rather than down (and to the left). To achieve this, the circles in the photo show the seam which is to be ripped to create the next column to the right. Please note, that seam will always be the first seam down from the top in the previous column (if you work from left to right when seam ripping your tube segments).

Press all seam allowances in columns 1, 3, and 5 up. Press all seam allowances in columns 2, 4, and 6 down.

Begin to join your block columns together as we did last week with our Block A’s, BUT this week, we will press all vertical seam allowances to the right.

Press the remaining vertical seams to the right, as well.

Because of our care in pressing, every seam will nest beautifully when we begin assembling our quilt top next week.

I look forward to seeing you all back here next Monday as we begin our final quilt assembly! Yay!

Krystyn ❤️
