I wanted to create something simple, dynamic, and dramatic all at the same time. Dasha is a wonderful model with a bubbling personality! She loves her hair,
so I asked her to wear it big and fluffy. I wanted to tell a story with her personality, beauty, and hairstyle and I chose two lighting setups to achieve this goal.
THE FIRST SETUP
For the first look, shown above, I used two Einstein flash units. My main light was modified with a 32” x 40” Foldable Softbox and a grid. The rim light had a 10” x 36” Foldable Stripbox with grid. Using the grids on both my main light and my rim light narrowed down the spread of light and avoided any unwanted spill. The rim light also gave just enough separation between Dasha and the background.
THE SECOND SETUP
With the second look, I wanted to create some shots where the light shaped her body and also highlighted her hair. I worked with my lighting assistant, Chris, and he set things up perfectly. It felt like she was glowing in front of the backdrop! For this setup, I used four Einstein flash units. The main light had a 60” Foldable Octabox. The second light (rim light right) and third lights (rim light left) were both modified with a 14” x 60” Foldable Stripbox and a grid. Lastly, the fourth light (back light) had a 7” Standard Reflector with a 30 degree grid.
