This 1992 Toyota MR2 GT-S hardtop is a Japanese-market example that was acquired by the seller in Japan in 2016 and subsequently imported to the US in 2019. The car is finished in red over black cloth upholstery and powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four linked to a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes 16″ Enkei wheels, pop-up headlights, an integrated rear wing, air conditioning, a Pioneer head unit, a MOMO steering wheel, a Cusco front strut tower brace, an HKS blow-off valve, and an OBX B-pipe. Work since 2016 is said to have included performing paint repair and replacing the alternator, valve cover gaskets, front and rear engine mounts, and braking and suspension components. This SW20 MR2 shows 125k kilometers (~78k miles) and is offered with partial service records, import documents, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Super Red (3E5) and features pop-up headlights, side air intakes, and an integrated rear wing. Paint correction was performed and the rocker panels were repainted in 2021. Close-up images of rock chips and additional exterior blemishes are provided in the gallery.
Staggered-width 16″ Enkei wheels are mounted with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires that were installed in August 2021. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. The lower ball joints were replaced in 2016 and the stabilizer bar end links and bushings were replaced in 2021. Additional work performed under current ownership is said to have included installing stainless-steel brake lines and replacement brake pads and rotors.
The right-hand-drive cabin features bolstered bucket seats trimmed in black cloth with contrasting inserts. Features include air conditioning, a Pioneer head unit, and power windows, mirrors, and door locks. A tear is visible on the driver’s seat bolster.
The three-spoke MOMO steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges showing boost pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 125k kilometers (~78k miles), approximately 24k of which were added during current ownership.
The front trunk features a Cusco strut tower brace and a spare wheel with an older Yokohama tire.
The mid-mounted and turbocharged 2.0L 3S-GTE inline-four is said to be equipped with an HKS blow-off valve and an OBX Racing B-pipe. The oil pan was reportedly recently resealed, and additional work performed since under current ownership is said to have included replacing the valve cover gaskets, front and rear engine mounts, alternator, battery, air conditioning compressor belt, and distributor O-ring. The seller states a mounting point in the engine compartment is broken.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an E153 five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The clutch lines were reportedly replaced in 2017.
