Phuopsis stylosa

Phuopsis stylosa (Trin.) Benth. & Hook. f. ex B.D. Jacks. (Caucasus) – A rare but slightly increasing escape from cultivation (often a mere throw-out). Probably first documented from a pond margin in Zonhoven (Wijvenheide) in 2000. From this locality regularly confirmed and apparently more or less established there. Since 2009 also known from damp grassland alongside river Schelde in Eine. In the past years also observed, for instance, in Chevron, Etikhove, Borgloon, Oudenburg and Ramillies, sometimes in abundance. See here for an up-to-date overview: http://waarnemingen.be/soort/view/10040.

Phuopsis stylosa is a very distinct species. With its long-exserted styles it cannot be confused with other members of Rubiaceae in Belgium. It is increasingly recorded in neighboring countries as well, e.g. in the British Isles (Stace 2010), Germany (Walter 1988), etc.
