Staghorn Cable Stitch Pattern | Knit with Aabhar

Pattern Description

Staghorn Cable Stitch Pattern is a classic cable stitch that consists of cables that are stacked on top of each other. When they are stacked in a ‘V’ shape, they even look like the horns of a stag! It’s a unique pattern in a way that you can make it in the reverse direction with the inverted Vs – Reverse Staghorn Cable.

Staghorn Cable and Reverse Staghorn Cable patterns are worked on a panel of 16 stitches against a reverse stockinette stitch background.

The free knit pattern is perfect for making a center panel of a poncho. You can also use it on sleeves as an accent. It will also look great on afghans and throws if you knit the Staghorn Cables in repeat.

The last cable pattern we covered was the Honeycomb Stitch Pattern, a beginner-friendly cable knitting pattern. Compared to that, it is a little more complex and we introduce two new cable stitches – C4B and C4F.

Cable Stitches

C4B – Cable over 4 stitches to the back. This is worked by sliding 2 stitches from the left needle onto a cable needle. Hold the cable needle towards the back of your work. Knit the next 2 stitches from the left needle and then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.

C4F – Cable over 4 stitches to the front. This is worked by sliding 2 stitches from the left needle onto a cable needle. Hold the cable needle towards the front of your work. Knit the next 2 stitches from the left needle and then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.

Just like we mentioned earlier, you can use cable needles to make cable stitches however, it is not an essential requirement. You can learn to make cable stitches with regular knitting needles as well.
