Alternated Cable knitting stitch pattern combines multiple types of cable stitches, making it an advanced-level pattern. There are four different cable stitches in this knitting pattern, including Cable 4 Back (C4B), Cable 4 Front (C4F), Twist 3 Back (T3B), and Twist 3 Front (T3F).

Just like other cable knitting patterns, Alternated Cable is also not a reversible pattern, and it creates a highly textured cable panel on a background of reverse stockinette stitches.

The Alternated Cable Stitch knitting pattern is perfect for knitting pullovers and cardigans.

CN	Cable needle
CO	Cast on
C4B	Cable 4 Back (sl 2 to CN, hold in back, k2, k2 from CN)
C4F	Cable 4 Front (sl 2 to CN, hold in front, k2, k2 from CN)
k	Knit
p	Purl
RS	Right side
T3B	Twist 3 Back (sl 1 to CN, hold in back, k2, p1 from CN)
T3F	Twist 3 Front (sl 2 to CN, hold in front, p1, k2 from CN)
WS	Wrong side

Making cable stitches without using a cable needle:

C4B (Cable 4 Back, also called 2/2 Right Cross (2/2 RC))-

1. Slip next 2 stitches off the left needle, hold them in back of work
2. Transfer next 2 stitches from left needle to right needle
3. Pick up the 2 slipped stitches on the left needle
4. Transfer the 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
5. Knit all 4 stitches

C4F (Cable 4 Front, also called 2/2 Left Cross (2/2 LC))-

1. Slip next 2 stitches off the left needle, hold them in front of work
2. Transfer next 2 stitches from left needle to right needle
3. Pick up the 2 slipped stitches on the left needle
4. Transfer the 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
5. Knit all 4 stitches

T3B (Twist 3 Back, also called 2/1 Right Purl Cross (2/1 RPC))-

1. Slip next stitch off the left needle, hold it in back of work
2. Transfer next 2 stitches from left needle to right needle
3. Pick up the slipped stitch on the left needle
4. Transfer the 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
5. k2, p1.

T3F (Twist 3 Front, also called 2/1 Left Purl Cross (2/1 LPC))-

1. Slip next 2 stitches off the left needle, hold them in front of work
2. Transfer next stitch from left needle to right needle
3. Pick up the 2 slipped stitches on the left needle
4. Transfer the stitch from right needle back to left needle
5. p1, k2.

CO Panel of 12 sts. For example, you can cast on a panel of 10 stitches on a background of 4 stitches on each side, so in total, 18 sts (4 + 10 + 4).

Row 1 (RS):	p1, k8, p1.
Row 2:	k1, p8, k1.
Row 3:	p1, C4B, C4F, p1.
Row 4:	k1, p2, k4, p2, k1.
Row 5:	T3B, p4, T3F.
Row 6:	p2, k6, p2.
Row 7:	k2, p6, k2.
Row 8:	Rep Row 6.
Row 9:	Rep Row 7.
Row 10:	Rep Row 6.
Row 11:	T3F, p4, T3B.
Row 12:	Rep Row 4.
Row 13:	p1, C4F, C4B, p1.
Row 14:	k1, p8, k1.
Row 15:	p1, C4B, C4F, p1.
