Found an Odd Nudibranch......
I was looking in my stock tank last night and saw an extremely bright little speciman. I thought it was a zoa growing on the egg crate, but as I looked closer it was a nudibranch.
I tried to pull it out for a closer inspection but after finding a container, I looked back into the tank and couldn't find it anywhere. It looked very similar to the picture below but I don't think it was as purple. And oddly I just added about 20 berghia nudis a week ago for aptasia control. I know about your typical zoa eating, monti eating, and berghias. Whats the story on these fella's?

At first I honestly thought it was a zoa, with a bright skirt
I've tried to look around a little to find out if these are a "pest", anyone know?

I don't know what kind Nudibranch it is, but I would find him and take him out to make sure.
Beauty and nasty sometime go with each other.

Yeah... Looks like he snacked on some nice Palys' and took on their color. ;o)
Don't the Zoa nudis do that? I believe so... it is part diet and part strategy to "blend in".

Im not too sure. I had zoa nudis a few years back, and they were all brown/tan like the typical picture of them. I will have to keep an eye on my zoas just in case.

I have some sun corals, and this wasn't anywhere near them in the frag tank. This was out in the open about 6" from anything just crusin on the egg crate.
Figured if it was a zoa eating nudi it would have chilled in the zoas. I will do a closer inspection once I get home. Thanks everyone!

I'd take it out and put it in a qt to observe. Try leaving some food in there and see if it'll eat any of it. If bad give it to lfs/ leave in qa. If good put back into tank.

It is a Flabellina iodinea, or Spanish shawl and lives here in our local waters. I see them on many of my dives, particularly in the Palos Verdes area.

yep, that is a spanish shawl, very common in our cold waters. I wouldn't think it would tolerate warm water for very long.
