I saw them in a match several years ago. Once they got in the ring they both stayed until the match was over. When one would tag out he would just go wait in his corner until he was tagged. No wrestling whatsoever. They were just a comedy attraction.

Did I see right? Did one McGuire help roll the other into the ring? And did some dude outside the ring give the other twin a shove as well? Purty sad. :eek

Yeah. I mean that's awful. I guess I'm wondering, was that a draw? Did people spend money to see two morbidly obese wrestlers that couldn't move back then? Maybe it was a novelty in the 70's, but now you can pretty much see people like that at Pizza Street any time you want.

They were in the Guinness Book for world's heaviest twins. Brought in strictly for carny appeal.

They were the greatest set of twins ever to appear on The Simpson's wearing checkered pants and riding motorcycles.
IIRL, I really felt sorry for those little motorcycles.

Was not that also part of their gimmicks in wrestling (riding the little bikes to ring)? I am sure I have read that somewhere, indeed probably on this site...

The McGuire Twins remind me that throughout the 1970s and into the early '80s, wrestling was like a carnival pulling in every week...minus a tilt-a-whirl. Going to the shows was like walking down a carnival midway. You had the barkers to talk you in (Dusty, Watts, Terry Funk, Superstar Graham, Ernie Ladd), and oh the attractions!

They were a major attraction back in the early to mid-'70s. I know they worked for Watts and McGuirk. They worked Tennessee, Calgary, and I'm sure many other territories. They were a huge (meant literally and figuratively) draw for awhile. Of course, as you can see from the video, if you saw them once, you had basically seen everything they did.

Were they used almost like Andre? Come in for a few matches and hit the road? Maybe wrestle at all the usually stops in a territory once and leave?
I met one of them at the Meadowlands fair in the 80s. He showed me and my friend a title belt that he said he one in Japan from Anonio Inoki. Could this possibly be true?

They worked New Japan and definitely were in the ring with Inoki on at least one occasion. I don't believe they ever took any strap off him though.
Last time I saw the surviving McGuire was on Charlie Babb's AWF at a taping in Union, SC round 1981 or so (along with the likes of Brute Bernard, Bulldog Brower, and Freebird Johnny Hayes aka Hollywood John Tatum).

Got to be friends with Bennie via the internet with The wrestlinglegends yahoo group. He was an open friendly man.He was a simple christian man very down to the earth. He was easy to like, and I enjoyed the time I had him as a friend there on wrestlinglegends. I was sad when I got word of his passing. He was married and was well loved by the folks around him.
