Meghann Shaugnessy has slipped down the rankings in the last year and will be keen to halt that demise forthwith.
She started the year on the fringes of the world's top 16 but has only won a Wimbledon seeding due to withdrawals.
Her progress was hampered at the back end of last year by ankle and back injuries after she helped the USA to the Fed Cup final.
At the majors this year she has lost in the first round of Australian Open and the third round of the French Open.
If she can keep that improvement going in the right direction she could match her best ever showing at Wimbledon when she reached the fourth round before going out in two tight sets to Kim Clijsters.
However, if Shaughnessy is to make her mark on the lush lawns of the All England Club it is more likely to be in the doubles.
While she has been struggling in singles, in partnership with Nadia Petrova she has won four titles this year.
